I believe the last time I posted was over 2 years ago. I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Please forgive me.
Will wedding photos make up for it?
Here’s a little life update along with some of my latest crochet projects. I’m a little blonder and a little bit older. I’ve gotten the itch to crochet a bit more (maybe it’s the cold Canadian winter that’s prompting it) and wanted to share.
Life Update – I’m a Jacobs!
Perhaps the biggest life update is I got married in October in Cape Town, South Africa. My handsome husband is South African and while we both live in Toronto, we wanted to get married in one of our home countries. It was either Pittsburgh for me or South Africa for him, and I fell in love with the dramatic, dreamy mountains of Cape Town wineries on our last visit.
We got married with 110 friends and family at Boschendal Wine Estate and it was the most magical day we could have wished for. To see a lot of our North American friends enjoying the gorgeous South African culture was priceless. Niel is Afrikaans and we did a blended ceremony, having my brother do part of the sermon in English and we had an Afrikaans pastor officially marry us.
I even did part of my vows in Afrikaans and it was a true joining of two families and cultures, celebrating how God brought us together.
I cried, he cried, our parents cried. And then we danced. It was a spectacular day and we’re still reliving the many special moments.
I’m now officially “JJJ” – Jayna Janelle Jacobs and getting used to my new signature. I laugh at how the JJCrochet name is more relevant now than it was when I picked it over 15 years ago during the birth of my small little crochet business. I’m trying to get “trip J” to catch on at work, but no luck so far…
Niel and I moved in together and live in a 2 bed / 2 bath condo right downtown Toronto in one of the bustling neighborhoods we love. It’s walkable and busy and we love it. We didn’t even argue over my stash of yarn that we had to make room for.
Crochet Update
Crochet projects have sadly been few, though when I do pick up a hook, I’ve been making crochet baby hats for my friend’s kids. So cute and easy and satisfying.
No patterns for these two hats as I made with some yarn I had on hand. Baby hats are the perfect things to crochet since they take such little yarn you can use up some odds and ends in your stash. They also allow you to be a little creative and play around with textures and flowers and other adornments.
If there’s interest, I can jot a pattern down for these half-herringbone double crochet baby hats with flowers.
That’s all for now, but feeling like 2025 is off to an exciting new start. Crazy to think how the days I’m living in are the ones I used to pray for.
Crochet-wise, I’ve got some ideas for new patterns and January in snowy Toronto is the perfect time to whip up something new so check back for patterns soon.
