Do you know why most crocheters in earlier eras held the crochet hook in their hand like a pencil? In the 1800s, this hand positioning was thought to be more feminine and graceful. Many crocheters now hold their hooks in the palms of their hands (often called the “knife hold”) to reduce carpal tunnel. I thought this was interesting! Thanks for sharing Jayna:)

They have yet to make a machine capable of truly crocheting. They can get a similar look but not actual stitches.

My g;mother taught me to crochet 60+ years ago, holding the hook like a pencil. Try and try though, I cannot seem to crochet holding the hook like a knife! When my wrist starts to hurt a little, I just swap to something else, such as knitting for awhile (I knit a little). Even though I became high partial legally blind 10 years ago (almost totally blind for about 3 months), I learned that I can still crochet, especially using worsted and bulky yarn, though now with good tunnel vision in one eye, I also sometimes use sport weight and as small as a “G” hook. Even then, I have trouble using real dark colors (goodbye black, navy, dark green, etc.). I do a lot by feel.
