Good morning! I woke up, looked out my window, and saw a white fluffly layer of snow. I knew it. I’m not going anywhere today. That’s when I got an idea. You might say I’m an old spinster, or even anti-social, but stay with me.
Here’s the deal: I’m sitting here with my crochet hooks, camera, and a pile of yarn. I’m in the pattern-writing mood. This means I’m here to help. If you’ve been scouring the web for a crochet pattern that you can’t seem to find, look no more.
You + Idea + My Brain = Free Crochet Pattern
Today and today only (February 25th) I am your personal-pattern generator. If you need a crochet pattern for something, I will crochet the item for you and post the free pattern. Does this sound cool or is it just me, still in my post wake-up haze?
Here’re the deals:
- Leave what you want me to crochet in the comments
- Pictures are helpful
- Thorough descriptions are even better
- In favor of creating a couple free patterns for people, please no large items (nothing bigger than a hat/ scarf – ie. no afghans or sweaters).
- I’ll crochet the item, write a pattern, then post the free pattern here on my crochet blog
So yep, that’s the deal.
What do you want me to crochet?

A small, simple rag doll would be lovely please…any chance? It could use up oddments xxx
I would love a rockers hat, something with a guitar on or the rock hands logo
Im so excited about this idea. I’m 8 and a half months pregnant , I’ve been looking for a simple and easy newborn dress pattern but if that’s too big maybe a nice headband with flower or flowers for spring? Thanks
I would love to see a pattern for the gorgeous garland in this picture!

I’ve been looking for a pattern for a baby hat with an attachable beard. And seriously, you are the sweetest person ever!
My son keeps asking me to make him a cozy sweater. I have found soooo many knitting patterns but an easy crochet sweater pattern is very hard to come by. Plain and simple would be best. I just would love to be able to surprise him.
Thanks for blogging. I love your patterns. I made so many chunky cowls. They were a big hit with my nieces!
Have an awesome crochet day!
Thanks for all the great suggestions – Keep them coming! First completed pattern via Maria’s suggestion, a crochet headband pattern for her soon-to-be born daughter here http://jjcrochet.com/blog/free-crochet-pattern-baby-headband-for-girls/
I would love to see a pattern for an aviator’s hat for girls. (age 4) Maybe a cream color, with light pink trimming. And what could be a real kicker, a pair of flight goggles (crocheted of course) to go with it =). (Feel the Amelia Earhart come out of you!)
I’d love a diaper cover pattern with ruffles on the bottom for babies up to about 9 months! You are so awesome!!! THANK YOU!!!
How Can I pay you for the yarn and shipping?
Newest posted pattern from this experiment – A crocheted snake! http://jjcrochet.com/blog/a-first-free-crochet-snake-pattern/
Thanks to Juliana from JJCrochet’s Facebook for her suggestion!
“That is really nice of you! Ok, I know there are lots of patterns for snakes, but I have some leftover wool-ease thick and quick in greys that would make a cool snake. Do you think you could give me direction (or pattern) for a snake using thick and quick (since all the patterns I’ve found use thin yarn). Or maybe using thick and quick for a snake wouldn’t work? It was just a thought!”
Enjoy your free pattern!
I’d love to see these cute little birds!!

I would love to see a pattern for this hat! If you’re serious about sending the finished item to the requester then I would love it in teal! http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/eka/product/cloche-hat
Thanks so much fro doing this!
Thanks for the inspiration, Kathleen! I crocheted the birds right up. They’re featured as the third free crochet project of the day. Thank you! You can check out the pattern here: http://jjcrochet.com/blog/free-crochet-bird-pattern-3rd-project/
Hi! You’re my hero. I love your blog! my twin sister is due with her first child (a girl!!!!) in august, and she’s doing an owl theme. I really want to crochet her a colorful/girly owl pillow! Like maybe 10 inches or so in height? I can’t find any patterns. I would like either a round one with big eyes (ive seen knit patterns for those) or a rectangular-bottom one. I’m on my phone or I’d post a pic. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Dear blog friends,
Thank you for all the comments, participation, and general excitement. I’m sorry I couldn’t make every item people requested, but I hope everyone enjoyed this crochet experiment as much as I did. Thanks for being wonderful. If you use any of the patterns, post a pic of your project in the customer gallery: http://jjcrochet.com/blog/customer-gallery/
Thanks again,
Jayna
Missed the 25th…but I do have a ?! I’ve been crocheting for a while now(13yrs). I see some patterns here and there but I am not sure how to create my own…any advice? Thanks!! <
Hi Bess – Sorry you missed the experiment, but that’s awesome you’ve been crocheting for all those years. I was like you – had been crocheting for a while, could read patterns, when one day I couldn’t find a hat pattern I like. So I just started working my own. I think your comment just gave me my next blog topic: how to write crochet patterns. Do you think a guide about how I write patterns would be helpful?
YES! A blog post about how you write patterns would be great.
